Habitat for Humanity of Marion County, Inc.
Position Summary
The Executive Director is responsible for the financial, operational, and administrative management of Habitat for Humanity of Marion County, Inc. The Executive Director provides overall leadership for the affiliate in accordance with its mission, policies, and objectives. The Executive Director will supervise affiliate staff, contract employees, and operational committees. The Executive Director must be highly visible in the community, promoting the vision and being a positive representative of the affiliate. Work is performed independently and is reviewed through reports and the observation of the results achieved. The Executive Director also serves as a non-voting, ex-officio member of the Board of Directors (BOD).
Essential Job Functions
General Administration

Serves as chief administrative officer of the organization responsible for ensuring that all legal obligations are met and operating policies are executed

Develop, recommend, implement, and evaluate administrative and operating policies and procedures for the effective and economical operation of the organization

Ensure public accountability of the organization

Regularly inform and advise the board of directors of operations, needs and concerns to effectively coordinate the management of the organization

In cooperation with the board president, prepare and maintain meeting agendas
-
Provide board of directors supporting documentation for agenda items, financial reports and all necessary information to make educated policy decisions
Financial Management and Development

Works with resource development committee and treasurer to ensure the faithful handling of all revenues and expenditures, and to ensure financial records properly kept and reported

participate in financial development by writing letters, making presentations and give me a leading fund-raising activities

research funding opportunities, right grants and administer grant funds and reporting

assist the resource development committee in implementing its fundraising strategy and locating and fostering development opportunities
Land Acquisition and Construction Administration

Develop relationships with local Realtors, builders and contractors who can assist in locating suitable lots on which to build new homes
-
Work with city building officials and county planning officials to become familiar with all building and environmental codes pertaining to house construction

Work with local utilities, attorneys and Abstract companies to ensure a smooth and efficient transfer of ownership of parcels

Oversee administrative portion of all builds; work with construction committee to develop and review specifications, bid notices, contracts, pay request, change orders, etc.
Volunteer Management

Oversee volunteer and donor base

Ensure adequate volunteer resources for affiliate operations

Coordinate, with the help of staff and/or committees, volunteer orientation, training and appreciation
Community Relations

Establish and maintain positive public relations, and serve as the face of Habitat for Humanity of Marion County

Help create awareness locally of the mission of Habitat for Humanity through outreach to the community through public relations programs, including personal contact, presentations, literature and the media

Represent the affiliate to Habitat for Humanity international, other habitat entities, churches, businesses, foundations, civic and government leaders, etc.

Build the habitat community by strengthening existing partnerships and fostering new partnerships

Effectively communicate Habitat for Humanity's ecumenical Christian mission
Board and Staff Relations

Provide leadership and support staff, regular volunteers, and committees

Facilitate long and short range planning of development of organization programs and services

Develop and implement the strategic plan in collaboration with the board of directors, including annual goals and evaluation

Maintain appropriate relations with the board of directors and various committees and keep them informed of pertinent issues

Administer an orientation and training program for the board of directors
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Position requires a bachelor's degree and/or a minimum of five years nonprofit leadership experience
Knowledgeable of the principles and practices of modern non-profit management, including financing, budgeting, volunteer management, development, public relations, and board operations
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with public and private partners, such as businesses, churches, government, and other service organizations
Skilled in the preparation, administration and evaluation of an organization budget
Knowledgeable of laws and regulations applicable to nonprofit management, housing development, and mortgage regulations (highly preferred)
Ability to conduct studies of procedures, policies and operations; to prepare concise reports; To research options and to recommend needed improvements
Ability to articulate the vision, mission and strategy to all stakeholders
Skilled in oral and written communication
Working Conditions
Ability to handle a variety of work environments which include: indoor, sedentary work in office; frequent travel to and from construction sites and around the community; and some outdoor labor at construction sites
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, kneel, reach, grasp, talk, hear, type, see and drive
Occasionally required to move, lift, push, carry or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds
Work schedule often involves irregular hours, including day, evening and weekend hours
required to attend all meetings of the board of directors
Optional attendance at conferences and seminars may require traveling distances over 60 miles and overnight stays in a hotel
