Habitat for Humanity of Marion County, Inc. is an Iowa affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit ecumenical Christian organization founded in 1976 whose mission is to alleviate substandard housing worldwide. Our affiliate was founded in Knoxville, Iowa, in 1997 and has since built or rehabbed 35 homes in Marion County – 21 in Knoxville, 12 in Pella, 1 in Pleasantville, and 1 in Melcher-Dallas.
We build simple, decent, affordable houses for families whose income is between 30% and 60% of the area median income. Homes are not given away, but are purchased by low-income, hard-working families who contribute at least 250 hours of sweat equity, through building their own home, other Habitat houses, or volunteering in the local community. Homeowners pay monthly mortgage payments to HFHMCI which are then used to build more homes. |
Mission
Working for God and partnering with people to build affordable homes, provide hope, and develop community.
Vision
As an ecumenical Christian organization, we work toward eliminating substandard housing and empowering families in the Marion County area and around the world. |
